Mandate of Heaven: Character Introduction

This is the opening scene showing Choi Won carrying Rang while they are being chased by the police brigade for he is accused of a treacherous crime.

Choi Won – He's a member of the royal medical staff as a physician, a father who raises his only daughter on his own after his spouse’ death, and a loyal friend to the Crown Prince as well as to the palace head physician, Mun Ju Bin. Furthermore, he has exceptional hands to deal with cases of emergency and in the treatment of grave diseases.

Rang – She is a sickly child. However, her disease is curable as long as proper acupuncture is performed on her that needs close attention. Perhaps she is fragile due to sickness but she has inner emotional strength within her despite of the difficulties she's encountered being a fugitive at such a tender age.

Crown Prince In Joong – His royal highness is the successor of the King whose condition is worsening enough to go down his throne. As the next in line, the Crown Prince has received threats from the traitors who are to challenge the seat of His Highness. Even though he has feared for his life, he won’t give up his aim to be the King he is deserving of.

The Queen – She’s role-played as the Crown Prince' mother after the King has re-married; and her role in the palace as tightened when she gave birth to the Grand Prince. Due to her wicked purpose to overthrow the Crown Prince of the position, she has orchestrated a threat to his life.

Red Demon – He is the fearless head of the investigation bureau that is vastly known to be hard-working in his achievements most especially that he advocates justice, equality and neutrality for all and he knows no position and social status in applying his principle.

Min Ju Bun – As the head of the medical staff, he is in charge of the overall health status and in providing the best nutrition for the members of the Royal family. However, there is price to pay for having huge responsibilities ahead of you but the true character of his shall prevail in the end.

Gim Ji Young – A ruthless official who is guarded by power to perform the evil. As one of the loyal subjects of the Queen, he is bribed from being human in action and in words.

Da in – She is a female staff nurse in the palace who provides support to the overall activities within the medical team. Her life is in debt of someone after being saved of acute pharyngitis that posed her life in danger when she was young. Because of that, she wanted to meet that person who saved her to give him thanks personally since she wasn't able to do it after the incident. However, she couldn't fully remember his identity. That is the root of her persistence and character in the story.

Grand Prince – He is a precious and caring younger brother to the Crown Prince whose innocence is being taken advantage of by the Queen’s ill purpose. However, at such a young age, he clearly identifies the good act from the scary one.

Gu Deok Pal – He is an accessory of a crime he should have declined from the start. I thought he should have had a braver spirit to go against his will since agreeing would weigh as much as the cost of someone's life.

Hammer Man (Ahjusshi) – He is the leader of the bandits located in the mountains as their hide out. Since I believe that every man has a story to tell, then probably his is not an exception to that. He needs to be heard as well no matter how much his life has been tied with the bad. Considering that he has spent sometime in jail, he has met someone whom he could relate to with the matters of making Gim Ji Young pay for his overdue misconduct.

So Baek – She acts like a man but everything changed when Horse Thief pulled her strings. Her upbringing is good despite of being exposed in a different environment as the Hammer Man’s daughter. Though she still acts immature to her age that made her insensitive of some issues, she is willing to endure her weaknesses for the sake of the people she cared for.

Choi Woo Young – Being raised in a family of noble, it’s hard when everything’s been taken away from you including your family. Other than the life you are used to, being apart from your brother and being left to take care of your sickly niece that worries you most is the worst. However, as Choi Won’s very own sister, bravery and strength naturally runs in the blood thus you expect that she won’t give in that easily to the challenges.

The Mystery – Don’t think this is actually his name because I only gave him this identity since his name is kept unmentioned or I just don't remember exactly. He’s like one of the characters who’s brought out of nowhere and has no clear background. But to be honest, I liked that his presence has started a very creative development to the plot. It’s not like I prayed for further pain to the characters but his presence brought the spark back to the series.

Seuk Jong – He’s part of the bandits who has long suffered from the loss of his family. Like the Hammer Man, he has some story to tell to everyone why he chose his path. His strength to live mainly comes from the woman he cares for, hoping she would finally open her heart to him.

Chun Bong – He is the leader of a secret organization led by the Crown Prince. They are on standby so when the time comes that it is necessary to make an action to protect the Crown Prince, they will do what it needs to be done.

Female Head Physician – Her position is not as easy as anyone’s however, she has a major role in deciding on what side she is to choose between the right and the wrong.

King Joong Jong – A King that suffers from various diseases and complications most likely affect the nation’s progress towards enormity. Due to the King’s grave condition, the case of Choi Won is not being properly addressed unless there is a concrete evidence to follow.

Note: I'm currently on episode 19 of this series and so far, I will rate it justly with very good. In case I become lazy of making a review of it, I'll just give you this short verdict overall.
