Review: Nice Guy

Release Date: September 12, 2012
Genre: Melodrama, Romance
Casts:

Song Joong Ki - Kang Maru
Moon Chae Won - Seo Eun Gi
Park Shi Yeon - Han Jee Hee

Synopsis:

Kang Ma Ru is a very wise man. However, we can't depend on that quality that we have in making the right choices  in life because we tend to be deceived by our feelings. He made a mistake for showing too much goodness and concern to the woman (Han Jee Hee) he thought would be true to him. He gave up everything including his doctorate degree and his responsibility to a sister suffering from sickness (Choco) to be a scapegoat to "noona's" (Han Jee Hee) murder. However, his sacrifices were put into waste because of Jae Hee's greed for money and power as she married a wealthy man who's much older than her. She turned back to her past, cutting off her ties with Maru's younger sister (Choco) and his bestfriend (Jae Gil) to start with a new life as a housewife. Years later, Maru came back with the thought of avenging his ruined life by using Jae Hee's step daughter (Seo Eun Gi) to get near her. At first, everything went according to plan however, Eun Gi is not an easy woman to be deceived. Everyone would all throughout believe that Maru is after Jae Hee. Less we know, Maru is already falling in love for Seo Eun Gi.

Comments:

Everyone looked amazing. Their appeal on screen layered the cliche story - karma is a bitch in a K-drama series. Anyhow, so long as it is overused, this kind of storyline has proven to raise interest. Everyone would really look forward to the characters getting even to witness the defeat of someone deserving of the price. Who wouldn't give in  to this kind of cunning story if it was laid in front of you? Once you start watching, there is no turning back. Even so, in my case, the first thing that engaged me are its stunningly gorgeous actors (I know that anyone can easily say that but to my standard, I am really choosy to be credible enough no matter how superficial it might sound). I was given the impression that their visuals would be enough to keep my interest before the storyline.

Though I must say that this drama is created to go beyond the visuals and focused mainly to the essence of the story making it the center of its attraction. Others I believe are scared by it's genre which is  melodramatic, well in that sense, the drama would accompany itself with an excellent editing and music. So in that case, you will learn to adjust on its phase and eventually will get used to it. The transition of events is one of a kind in this series. The one that I applaud most would have to be whenever they insert at least 8-10 minutes of flashback where they make the events more clear from the previous episode into the first 8-10 minutes on to the next episode. That showed a very creative and genius execution of the continuity of the scenes. I totally fell in love with how the editing team made such graceful entrance and exit for everybody.

Acting was a part of their job and the actors are blessed with  great visuals and at the same time talent. Song Joong Ki and Moon Chae Won are two of my favorite actors as they are so skilled, versatile and genuine with their craft. Though with Moon Chae Won, I have a lot of favorite dramas from her, I can consider this one as Joong Ki's best so far. He was excellent as Kang Maru, I totally fell in love with his facial expressions especially when they do an up close on his face. Kwang Soo's character is so much fun as well, I think it has something to do with his offscene chemistry with his friend, Joong Ki. Another revelation to me was Attorney Park Joon Ha played by Lee Sang Yeob. He's so handsome, very charismatic and his character totally melt my poor heart. (Aww) You need to check him out, and this would apply to everybody as well. Everyone was so close to perfection delivering their characters with a matching beautiful scenery on the background.

This melodrama is legit.

OST: My favorite would have to be "Really" by Song Joong Ki released from the Part 2 OST and Love is Like Snowflake by Xiah Junsu released from the Part 1 OST release. Part 1: BUY Part 2: BUY for $15.99!

My OTP:

If you are lazy to read, the chemistry of these two should be enough for you to watch the series. Enjoy!
