Review: The Princess Man

Genre: Romance, Period, Political
Year Released: 2011

Casts:
Moon Chae Won - Lee Se Ryung
Park Shi Hoo - Kim Seung Yoo

Synopsis:
The story centered to the romance set during the Joseon Dynasty. Part of which involved the challenges and the hardships that surrounded the relationship between a daughter from the Grand Prince' household and a noble man who's a noted teacher by profession and who's also from an influential and respected family in their father's regard as the King's loyal adviser. However, the romance was strongly objected by the two families because of opposing political interests and values.

Commentaries:
The romance is average, cliche, and very predictable but the elements that saved its shortcomings are well delivered in the form of revenge and politics. It was able to counter its imbalances in the plot, since the sweet and innocent love story was very unappetizing at first but then it managed to step up its plot which I thought was an excellent idea as executed. As strange as it might sound, I kind of missed the romance while the story is busy running its other materials. Though I don't remember complaining at all because the distance that separated the two made their emotions come back intensely. Hence, it was made powerful as the yearning gets stronger.

I believe it was able to address all the issues within the story which is compelling overall and that it didn't provide false reassurances towards the ending as well. The effort was massive since this is a story which began with romance and it wouldn't work without these assurances but this drama proved it to be different from what is expected.

The intense emotion portrayed by the actors were convincing in as much as feeling the pain and the loss of the characters. Moreover, since I have soft spot for sageuk, it was made to score higher than most of the series I've watched. My final verdict is Highly - Recommended!
