First Impression: Heartless City Episode 2

Heartless City Episode 1 - Character Introduction

When this drama introduced the names of our gangsters: Doctor's Son, Safari, Pusan, Meth Kim, etc, I was really amused with their creativity to make up names. Where in the world did those come from? That's one of the reasons why I loved the series even more. 

In the field of drugs, there's also a competition that happens among the druggies. Hmm, it's getting interesting now. Even though we have an evident star, I wonder how far could this coup goes among them.

Cinematography wise, the series is amazing. Maybe, I was too amazed because it exceeded my expectations, actually.

My fear of heights strikes here! Doctor's Son and his friend Soo hang Meth Kim (or Kim Pong) at the height of the building for him to speak up about Scale's whereabouts. So now, Scale is not only wanted by the cops but also to Doctor's Son company. 

They tortured Meth Kim until he divulge what they needed from him. It was such a frightening situation and because of that, he gave in.

Who are this girls? Scale hired them to perform in front of him and his son. I think that this is not really appropriate for kids to watch. What the heck!

Scale and his only son. He seems to be happy and said that Appa is the best. Seriously? Spare the innocence of your son with this form of entertainment.

To interrupt the show, Doctor's Son's company came in. Soo, you're cool!

Doctor's Son made a proposal to Scale for them to work together with their organization and that would include: to betray Pusan (the head of all addicts).

Right? So he threatened to strip him dead in front of his son, that should be a good memory for him to remember all throughout his life.

Thinking... You're not a heartless father after all.

That way he said it is REALLY cool. *squeal*

Introducing, Jin Suk. The only girl and the fashionista member of Doctor Son's organization. I wasn't sure if her character will hold a great importance to the story though.

Jin Suk simply rejects old men.

But what is this I'm seeing, she likes Ji Hyun (Doctor's Son)? No way, she's older than him and besides, they don't match at all. He deserves better.  

He gave her a necklace but she called her 'auntie'. Yes! First assumption rejected.

Introducing... Safari on his way to meet Pusan.

Introducing.... Pusan, the root of all the druggies in this drama.

You guess what Pusan asked to Safari. It is to go after Doctor's Son, Ji Hyun whom he shared precious memories with in the past.

Pre-adolescent Doctor's Son, Ji Hyun.

Safari met Scale because he escaped Doctor Son's company.

At the hospital.. Why?

Because of Soo, he is in a state of comatose and that it was Safari's doing.

Meanwhile our couple here, who are police officers, are having a fight on where to put their responsibility to each other in their relationship.

Listen to Hyun Min's words pls. He's only thinking of your safety. I understand where Gyung Mi is coming from too but I guess it would be better if she'll listen. It's a complicated matter to discuss to anyway.

I was really shocked when Doctor's Son intentionally break the wine glass in front of Jin Suk. You should watch how the scene was executed. It was very cool and charismatic, very unexpected.

Look at his face. He said that he'll make sure that there is a price to pay for making Soo that way. In conjunction to Jin Suk's involvement in this fiasco, she has maintained her contact with Safari after all these years, the right hand man of Pusan.

She was so shocked, like I was.

Hyun Min visited his brother at the rehabilitation where he is confined after losing his mind from drug dependence. So, aside from wanting to protect his girlfriend, he is also motivated to seek revenge to the drug syndicate for the sake of his brother.

It must be really hurtful for him considering that Hyun Min also blames their father, for after being a prosecutor in a long time now, he hasn't done anything valuable yet to eradicate the drug lords in the society.

Safari formed a team to penetrate the group of police officers to further the confusion on whom should be liable. Is it  Safari, Pusan, Scale or Doctor's Son? Basically they want to mislead the authority from the right path.

Gyung Mi received a call from Safari's team that she will surrender herself and is willing to serve as a state witness.

A problem aroused in the orchestrated act. Hyun Min was smart enough to be doubtful of the state witness so he brought a picture to Scale and asked if that the girl she's trying to protect. Scale said yes, but little to his understanding, it was from Safari's team, the fake state witness.

After that, he went to interrogate the fake state witness and told him that she knows nothing when in fact, she is knowledgeable. This is why I like Hyun Min's character, he's not easy to outwit!

End. To give this a caption, while episode 1 didn't appeal to me that much, episode 2 was definitely interesting!
