"In A Good Way" Episode 5

love this episode! It portrayed Liu Chuan's complexity as a human being - which is the opposite of him whom we've seen in previous episodes that is almost a perfect image of an idol - which is too good to be true to even exist. Whereas for Jia En, it showed her lack of emotional growth and her need to learn the basic survival tips in life. That isn't a bad thing for we understand the level of maturity she has. She is someone who can be influenced by friends yet wanting to achieve independence to herself at the same time.

When she failed the audition, she tried to shrug off her loss in front of everyone who went to cheer for her but in the end, letting Liu Chuan to be the shock absorber of her frustrations. Later on, we see these two patch things up between them however, bad moods won't go well with bad timing. Hence, awkwardness all over their body language. Nonetheless, Liu Chuan still helped Jia En in her practicals of jitterbug wherein they performed a self satisfying dance - flashing Jia En's bright smile and in return Liu Chuan's smitten eyes.
Events:

I. So many things happened in this episode, it isn't the sweetest episode yet the best to date for me because it's the most substantial of all episodes. I love how supportive Jia En's friends are to her during her audition - but I especially liked Tracy's way of dealing with Jia En's attitude. She was really honest to tell her it was her dress that failed to impress the judges hence she was not selected among the participants. Whereas, it showed how Liu Chuan is not ready to take the risk in telling her the truth even when he knew the reason. Bai Xue was her motivator to join and again, encouraged her to try again next time - the same thing that Ren Wei did. Xiao Wei is someone who is still confined with being the nice friend, but more than that, she is similar to Jia En as she still needs more experiences, struggles and life lessons to know the bitter reality out there. Overall, I just loved the spirit of friendship that they have shown in this episode. This is what I look forward to in the future as well.

II. After the audition, Jia En's mood turned sour and she felt sorry to everyone but more of pitied her efforts. She asked them to go to their next class as she needs to attend hers too. But then Liu Chuan knew it was a lie so he tried to cheer her mood up and brought her a lollipop saying research shows when someone with an off mood tastes it, it would cheer them up. Oh so sweet but Jia En pouted and frown, Liu Chuan called her cute. The gesture sent Jia En the wrong message wherein she thought, it was because she wasn't pretty and pleasant enough so he called her cute. Liu Chuan dismissed her way of thinking and said, if someone laughs at a person that means they like him or her. Jia En disagreed so she said that Liu Chuan should stop lying and copying what are being said in the movies. (LOL) This led to a petty quarrel between them making things uncomfortable.

III. To me, I loved it because it seemed realistic on the part of Jia En to not buy Liu Chuan's words and take note that she totally dismissed Liu Chuan's effort and the lollipop. I bet she didn't even appreciate that a cute guy is trying to make her feel better. On the other hand, Liu Chuan lost his temper to her as well, his words piled up to Jia En's head and that ensued her misinterpretation of things toward him. Later on, Jia En shared to Xiao Wei and Tracy that she yelled at Liu Chuan and feels bad about it, cute that she realized her mistake right away. The next day, she apologized immediately.

IV. Moving on from the main OTP, Bai Xue and Ren Wei's moment was when he serenaded her at the Treasure Hunt Club office. Everyone was impressed including the Three Musketeers and me, I dislike being the center of attention as well like Bai Xue but at least if that someone has a great voice then that would be less of a problem. I love Bai Xue's reaction to that and the way she rolls her eyeballs directed towards Ren Wei's act. After that, he asked whether he can join their club to which Bai Xue responded, everyone is welcome. Well at least, even when he's rejected for the second time around again. That's the spirit of Ren Wei, to never give up! I wonder who will give up first from the two: one is determined at rejecting someone while the other is to court the girl of her dreams.

V. This episode also introduced us to the conflict between Liu Chuan and his father - where they agreed that his father will not meddle with his life in school. But then he was invited to deliver a speech for the students so he couldn't say no. Liu Chuan also didn't want everyone to find out that he's a congressman's son because he might get special treatment and he didn't want it. I understood where he is coming from but I also felt for the dad because Liu Chuan walked himself away from him when his dad saw him. Though he probably has a reason for it. However, we were able to see him different from the usual matured person we've come to admire. I think that, Liu Chuan is perfectly flawed like any other human being for having secrets that you have to keep to yourself and few friends.
